Despite nearly eight years passing since its release, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is experiencing an unusual surge in popularity and engagement. The wave of attention for Modern Warfare Remastered came just before the release of a highly anticipated mod built using Remastered as its basis.
Counting the original PS3- and Xbox 360-era release in 2007, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfareis nearly 17 years old at the time of this writing. Despite dozens of Call of Duty games coming out since then, the game's impact is undeniable, seemingly changing the face of online multiplayer across the entire gaming industry for generations. That nostalgia was validated in the 2016 release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, which revived the series' legendary multiplayer mode, as well. Fans were less enthused about the 2020 release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, which contained only the game's single-player campaign.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies Includes Nostalgic Feature
Along with the return of some fan-favorite features, Black Ops 6 will also include options that are sure to satisfy longtime Zombies players.
That disappointment in the lack of a viable version of Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer is the sentiment that propels the recent resurgence of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. The sudden surge, which has pushed the game back into the top ranks of the Steam Top Selling charts, arrives in anticipation of the August 16, 2024 launch of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered H2M Mod, a major mod for recreates Modern Warfare 2multiplayer. Popular streamers and Call of Duty players like FaZe Clan's Scope posted gameplay clips and videos ahead of the mod's release, getting fans excited about the return of the originally canceled Modern Warfare 2 Remastered multiplayer.
Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Multiplayer Revived Through H2M Mod
According to its creators, H2M Mod is built on top of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered recreating Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer modes and content, along with some "new twists." Unlike a previous mod that aimed to restore the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer using Black Ops 3, the H2M Mod is reportedly much closer to the classic experience. This is due to the fact that it's built on Modern Warfare Remastered, an officially developed game with the same common roots.
H2M Mod's development team promises to use a progression system very similar to the classic Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer progression, but with some new additions to satisfy players used to contemporary systems. H2M Mod will have all the classic Modern Warfare 2 camos available, and add a few new ones, along with special animated versions. Classic calling cards and emblems from Modern Warfare 2 will also return alongside the team's additions. The mod will also retain all the original Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer maps, the maps from Modern Warfare Remastered, and even several custom maps based on the remastered campaign.
Call of Duty fans will have much to look forward to in the coming days, as the release of the H2M mod brings back a taste of Call of Duty as it used to be, just before the release of the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
