Rotation of Takum chieftaincy stool best decision – Gov Kefas
Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has said that the decision to rotate the stool of the first-class chief of Takum among the three ethnic groups in the area was made with the best of intentions for inclusivity, fairness and unity in the area and the state at large.
The governor stated this on Wednesday at Rimi Primary School in Takum while speaking at the reception of the new chief of Takum.
Governor Kefas, it would be recalled, had earlier this week presented the staff of office to the new first-class monarch, Barrister Sopiya Ahmadu Gboshi, at the Executive Chamber of the Government House, in Jalingo, the state capital.
Describing the event as significant progress in the journey towards unity and adherence to the rule of law in the state, he noted that it is his solemn duty to uphold the principles of justice and fairness.
The Taraba State High Court, sitting in Jalingo, the state capital, set aside the claims of the Kuteb ethnic group over the Takum chieftaincy on Monday.
Carrying out the court’s directive, the governor reaffirmed his decision to honour the rule of law and judicial processes, hence his decision to issue a staff of office to the new chief.
He reiterated that the decision to rotate the first-class stool among the three major tribes in the area was made with the best of intentions.
While charging the people to remain law-abiding and support his administration to deliver dividends of democracy to the people, he pledged his administration’s readiness to empower the youth and women across the state.
