A massive survey of Aussies by employment agency Randstad has named the top 10 most desirable places to work, with some very surprising employers making the list.
The comprehensive poll surveyed 6,105 people aged from 18 to 65, with a slight emphasis towards the under 40s as the survey's main target audience are potential employees.
The employers - both private and public - who rated highest had financial stability, career progression, good salaries and were conveniently located.
Half of the top 10 were government organisations - including some the public often complain about, such as Australia Post and Transport for NSW - and half are private companies, such as the top-ranked Deloitte.
Insurance Australia Group, NSW Department of Communities & Justice, Virgin Australia, G8 Education, NSW Health, Healthscope and the Queensland Government rounded out the best employers list.
According to the Randstad Workmonitor Survey, the top 10 employers in Australia for 2024 are:
1 Deloitte
Deloitte Australia's chief people and purpose officer Pip Dexter said the firm was proud to be considered the most attractive place to work.
'We know our people come to Deloitte to do meaningful work, grow their skills, learn from others and develop their careers,' she told 9News.
'Our ongoing commitment to inclusion and equity creates an environment where people can thrive - ideally in both work and life.'
2 Insurance Australia Group
Deloitte was followed by the Insurance Australia Group, meaning private employers took out the top two spots, unlike in 2023, when public sector employers ranked higher.
3 NSW Department of Communities & Justice
The top ranked public employer, and third overall, was the NSW Department of Communities & Justice (DCJ).
DCJ's chief people officer Catherine Carvolth said it showed it was trusted by its employees.
'We want to acknowledge the 24,000 staff who make DCJ an engaging and purposeful place to work,' she said.
'We're determined to maintain our reputation as an attractive employer and strive to make DCJ an even better place to work in the years to come.'
4 Virgin Australia
In March, Virgin Australia announced it will become the country's first airline to allow pets onboard so they can travel with their owners.
The company is also considered a good employer, finishing fourth in the Randstad survey.
5 G8 Education
G8 Education is Australia's largest ASX-listed early childhood and care provider, with more than 430 childcare centres.
6 Australia Post
Australia Post comes in for a lot of criticism from the public at times, but for its 63,000 employees, it's a good place to work anyway.
7 Transport for NSW
Transport for NSW, which oversees bus and train transport in Australia's most populous state, often leaves commuters unimpressed.
But those working for it, according to the survey, see it as a stable and rewarding place to be employed.
8 NSW Health
NSW Health is ranked the eighth best place to work in Australia, which is high praise for a body which often took the brunt of the Covid-19 pandemic.
9 Healthscope
It is not just public health bodies such as NSW Health which rated highly, the for-profit Healthscope, which runs private hospitals and medical centres, was ranked Australia's ninth best employer.
10 Queensland Government
Working for Queensland's state government rounded out the top 10 most desired employers in Australia for 2024. With around 246,000 employees, that is a huge amount of satisfied workers.
