Paris faces disaster scenario

A study carried out by Apur (Parisian Urban Planning Workshop) has just been released. It shows that in the event of a natural disaster or blockade, Paris' food reserves would run out after 5 to 7 days.

If the French capital were to face unprecedented flooding or a road blockage, its residents would quickly face famine due to a lack of sufficient food storage capacity. It was the Paris City Hall, as part of its "resilience strategy" launched in 2022 to anticipate various crisis scenarios, that initiated this study, a first of its kind in France, reports France Info.

While Covid had already highlighted the limits of the city of Paris in terms of available warehouses, the objective is to find other storage spaces to be able to feed Parisians for at least 100 days. "The interest is to identify what can be stored locally, to know how to continue to supply the capital in the event of a disaster, such as a flood of the Seine, or a road or rail blockade,"underlines Alexandre Labasse, director of Apur.
