Good mental health doesn't mean 'absence of negative emotion'
Child and adolescent psychologist Clare Rowe says the presence of negative emotion should be “normalised”.
“How do we as professionals assess what poor mental health is? It’s actually not the absence of negative emotion, it’s actually not happiness,” Ms Rowe told Sky News host Rita Panahi.
“Someone who feels happy all the time is not the benchmark that we use to say, ‘do you experience good mental health?’.
“It’s actually when you do have those feelings … how well do you cope with them? How badly do they impact your day-to-day functioning?
“What’s your resiliency like to respond to them and get through your day?”

It can predict a progression from MCI to Alzheimer's within six...
