Calls for SA drivers to be re-tested on road rules

South Australian drivers could soon be required to brush up on the basics. The RAA today releasing a set of ideas that came from recent safety talks after the state last year recorded the highest Rd. toll since 2011. These recommendations will go a long way to improving Rd. safety in South Australia. One thing the motoring body wants to explore is a road rules test for SA drivers every 10 years before their licence would be renewed. It is really about that refresher to drivers that have been out on the road and consider themselves to be quite experienced. Not necessarily from the beginning of getting your license onwards but maybe after you hit a certain age that is introduced. I think that would be good for Rd. safety for younger people. Like if I was to take my test but in the next 10 years I feel like I could pass it with ease. So much can happen within 10 years can't it? With people's minds. These recommendations are part of an action plan to drastically reduce the number of lives lost and serious injuries on our roads by 2031. Currently, SA isn't on track to reach those targets. Other ideas include lower speed limits on some suburban streets and for a closer look at whether there should be restrictions on drivers and riders wearing headphones and earphones. It is a big distraction having the headphones in your ear. You can't hear what's happening around you. So that could be emergency service sirens coming up from behind you. It could be a motorcycle or a truck in the next lane in the Henderson 9 News.
