Melbourne teacher Paul Hogan mourned after falling to death from school roof

A Melbourne schoolteacher has died after falling from a roof at a school in the city's south-west.

Paul Hogan, 61, is believed to have been retrieving balls from the roof of St. Margaret Mary's School in Spotswood when he fell through a skylight at around 2:30pm on Thursday afternoon last week.

In a statement released by WorkSafe Victoria, a spokesperson said it is believed Mr Hogan was taken to hospital with critical head injuries, where he died overnight.

School community mourn the loss of 'friend'

Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) executive director, Dr Edward Simons said the community was deeply saddened by the passing of Mr Hogan, describing him as a "highly regarded" leader in the Catholic school system across his 36-year career.

"We extend our sincere condolences to Paul's family, friends and colleagues, and we hold all of those impacted in our hearts and prayers," Dr Simon said.

"Paul was a friend and mentor to many in our MACS community and he will be dearly missed."

St. Therese's School in Essendon, where Mr Hogan was a former principal, also shared their sympathies with Mr Hogan's family.

"Our sincere condolences are extended to Paul's family, friends, colleagues and the so many people across our community," the statement read.

"Paul has positively impacted so many who witnessed his wonderful contribution to MACS schools over so many years."

WorkSafe Victoria says it is investigating the incident.
