‘Ridiculous’: Labor’s Future Made in Australia bill ‘without substance’
Shadow Finance Minister Jane Hume has slammed Labor’s Future Made in Australia bill, saying it is a “very big headline” without “substance”.
“If it’s about grants and incentives, well, they can be done without legislation,” she told Sky News Australia.
Ms Hume’s comments come as $22.7 billion over the next 10 years will be put into businesses considered critical for the net zero transition, as well as sectors that boost national economic resilience and security.
The government will introduce its legislation in parliament today.
“What manufacturers need is lower energy prices, they need flexible industrial relation laws, they need de-regulation and they need lower taxes,” Ms Hume said.
“That’s what they are crying out for in an economic plan.”

NewsHow hard is it to live off cash alone in Australia? I tried for a weekend and this is what happened
When my editor asked me to go old-school and only use cash for a weekend to test whether it’s impossible or a breeze to live without digital payments, my response was: “I don’t even know where my debit card is.” As I rifled around in the pockets of various pants and bags in search of it, I found $115 shoved into a red Christmas envelope. Then, in another pocket, my card. The whereabouts of both had remained long forgotten because I am one of the...
