Countdown to celebrations ahead of Tour Down Under

Countdown to celebrations ahead of Tour Down Under
25 years of Australia's greatest cycling race, putting our city on the podium and showcasing SA to the world. It's 25 years it's got its peace. Peace in traditional sporting history now and you know the the fans love it, the bike riders genuinely love it. For the Tour Down Under's very first winner now race director, it's a nostalgic milestone. Been an amazing journey to be a part of that from the inaugural event and a part of it from being an ambassador and trying to get teams to actually come to Adelaide. The infamous Wollonga Hill climb will feature again for the first time. The women's peloton will tackle it twice before finishing their race in the hills. I think we're all happy with mixing up a little bit this year and having that sterling on the final day. And yeah, I think it's a really good combination of different stages for different types of athletes for next year. As a nod to the past, the event will go back to 1999, where it all began with the men's Down Under Classic being held right here in the East End. Well, I guess it's a real. It was a nice opportunity to acknowledge the 1999 edition, bring in a couple of stages which were I guess quite decisive in that inaugural event, but bring them in with a few new innovations. And after an absence of seven years, the Adelaide CBD will again provide the backdrop for the last day of men's racing. Couldn't think of any better way to to finish the 25th celebrations of the race anywhere else other than in the heart of Adelaide. Josephine Shannon. 9 News.
