CFMEU demerger law passes through the Senate
A new union demerger law has passed in the Senate after the government fast-tracked legislation to break up a powerful union.
The law allows members of the CFMEU manufacturing division to break away from the union.
The legislation follows the threat made by the union’s Victorian leader, John Setka, over the appointment of new AFL umpire boss, Steve McBurney.
It passed with the support of Labor and the Coalition but was opposed by the Greens.
