'Top-secret cloud': Federal government strikes $2 billion deal with Amazon

The Federal government has struck a $2 billion deal with Amazon to create a top-secret cloud to protect the nation’s most sensitive defence and security data.

It was announced by Defence Minister Richard Marles who says the cloud would ensure Australia has a capable, lethal, modern and potent defence force for the future.

“In partnership with Amazon Web Services Australia – the Commonwealth will be establishing a top-secret cloud computing capability,” Mr Marles said.

“This will house the data … across the Commonwealth.”
