Harry Potter: The Malfoy Family Tree, Explained
It's important to remember the ongoing controversial statements by the creator of the Harry Potter franchise. CBR supports the hard work of industry professionals on properties fans know and love and the wider world of Harry Potter that fans have adopted as their own. You can find CBR's continuing coverage on Rowling here.
Great wizarding families were a part of Harry Potter's lore, and the Malfoy clan was a questionable but important part of the Wizarding World. Their history spanned all the way back to the late 10th century. The Malfoys came to Britain with the invading Norman army, specifically, Armand Malfoy arrived with William the Conqueror and gained a lot of land in Wiltshire after doing definitely suspicious favors for the King. He built the Malfoy Manor, which the Malfoys occupied till the modern day.
The Malfoys were always associated with unscrupulous activities, and Armand Malfoy was known for his dubious activities since the beginning. The family always thought that wizards were superior to Muggles but did not hesitate to ally with Muggles when it came to amassing riches. After the establishment of the Statute of Secrecy, the Malfoy family started maintaining their stance on blood purity, but there has been plenty of half-blood and Muggle fraternizing within the family despite this.
Abraxas Malfoy Was an Influential Wizard

Before September 2nd, 1996 | Pure-blood |
Abraxas Malfoy was born before 1936. He had immense influence in the Wizarding World, and his shady actions changed the course of history forever. While it was not confirmed (as most Malfoy malpractices rarely were), Abraxas formed a plot to compel the 1968 Minister for Magic Nobby Leach to leave his position prematurely, who was the first Muggle-born minister. Clearly, the Malfoys (whose names literally meant "bad faith") had little respect for anybody but those with wealth, resources, and social standing.
Abraxas, like all Malfoys, was also sorted into Slytherin House. He was well-known in Horace Slughorn's Slug Club, as Draco had tried to curry favor with the Professor by naming his famous grandfather. Abraxas passed away from Dragon Pox at an advanced age. He gave birth to a son, Lucius Malfoy II, who was a large part of the Harry Potter franchise as a follower of Lord Voldemort.
Lucius Malfoy II Became a Death Eater

Lucius Malfoy was not the first with his name. Lucius I was born in the 16th century while Lucius II was probably the only son of Abraxas Malfoy, and he inherited the vast wealth and land from generations before from his father. Instead of using it for good, Lucius went down an overtly dark path, and he became Second-in-command of the Death Eaters for Lord Voldemort. He was a strong advocate for pure-blood supremacy and consistently looked down on anyone who wasn't.
Slippery like his ancestors, Lucius managed to get away with his association with the Dark Lord by claiming he was under the Unforgivable Imperius Curse. However, Lucius rejoined Voldemort when he returned, even going so far as to open the Chamber of Secrets by trapping Ginny Weasley. He used an 11-year-old for his ends while putting a Horcrux in danger, which put Lucius in trouble with Voldemort. After the Second Wizarding War, when Voldemort was foiled permanently, Lucius still managed to get away with his involvement by providing information about other Death Eaters. He may have walked away from Voldemort during the Battle of Hogwarts, but Lucius was a bad egg through and through.
Narcissa Black Married Into the Malfoy Family

How Harry Potter Survived Voldemort's Second Killing Curse
Harry Potter survived Voldemort's first killing attempt as a baby, but how did he survive the Dark Lord's second killing curse in Deathly Hallows?A part of the pure-blood family of Black, Narcissa was Cygnus and Druella Black's daughter. She met Lucius Malfoy at Hogwarts and married him later. They gave birth to one son, Draco Malfoy. Like the Malfoys, Narcissa was taught about pure-blood supremacy at her mother's knee, which was why she cut off all ties with her sister Andromeda when she married a Muggle-born wizard.
Narcissa was a staunch supporter of the Dark Arts and Voldemort, and she was by her husband's side when he became Second-in-command of the Death Eaters. Narcissa's sister, Bellatrix, was Voldemort's most ardent supporter. However, maternal love made Narcissa lie to Voldemort about Harry being alive after Voldemort "killed" him in the Forbidden Forest. This ensured Harry's victory and was the main reason why Narcissa was pardoned later on.
Draco Malfoy Was a Spoiled Son
Born In | Blood Status |
---|---|
June 5th, 1980 | Pure-blood |
Draco Malfoy was his parents' son, and all he cared for was status and blood purity, which were the worst things about him. This was why Draco looked down on the Weasleys, and tried to forge a friendship with Harry based on his family's status in the Wizarding World. Draco was spoiled and a bully, and his enmity with Harry went on for years and years. Till the end, Draco was ready to betray Harry in the Room of Requirement, and it was the Boy Who Lived who put aside his hostility and saved his life.
Draco got pulled into the dark forces by Voldemort because of his parents' mistakes. He sneaked Death Eaters into Hogwarts, cursed Katie Bell, and hurt numerous students so that he could eventually kill Dumbledore. Unlike Lucius and Narcissa, Draco didn't have the same penchant for evil. Being a Death Eater took a toll on Draco, and he eventually chose the better path later in life.

10 Questionable Things Each Main Character Did in Harry Potter
The characters in the Harry Potter franchise are human and have flaws, leading to some characters making wildly questionable choices.Astoria Greengrass married Draco Malfoy sometime between 2000 and 2005. She was a pure-blood witch but had a liberal attitude towards blood purity, which made her accepting towards Muggle-borns and half-bloods, much to the chagrin of Narcissa Malfoy. Astoria was two years junior to Draco at Hogwarts, and she died early due to an inherited blood defect in 2019. Astoria and Draco gave birth to young Scorpius Malfoy, who was their only son.
Born between 2005 and 2006, Scorpius had a different childhood than his father. He was not taught to condescend on people based on their blood but had an isolated few years at Malfoy Manor before he joined Hogwarts. He was in the same year as Rose Granger-Weasley and Albus Potter, and he became fast friends with the latter. In Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Scorpius proved that he was different from the rest of his family and his ambition was to be liked and loved by his peers, and he rejected power, which his ancestors had never done.
Harry Potter
The Harry Potter franchise follows the adventure of a young boy introduced a whole new world of magic, mayhem and darkness. Traversing the obstacles in his path, young Harry's rise to heroics pits him against Lord Voldemort, one of the most dangerous wizards in the world and all his minions.
