DCU Green Lantern Actor's Emmy-Winning Series Is Getting Rebooted 13 Years Later

The latest television series that's up to be rebooted is Friday Night Lights. Featuring new DCU actor Kyle Chandler in his Emmy-winning role, the series aired its final episode in 2011.

Per Puck, a reboot of Friday Night Lights is in development at Universal Television with the original show showrunner Jason Katims, director Pete Berg, and producer Brian Grazer. The new series is expected to be a new story following a different cast of characters while retaining its focus on Texas high school football. While the Friday Night Lights reboot is said to be in its early development stages, the project has already been taken out to market, sparking a bidding war with streaming platforms.

2 of The Peanuts' Greatest Running Gags Originated in This 58-Year-Old Special

Its The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown was a completely groundbreaking special for its time, and it produced two of Peanuts' greatest running gags.

Inspired by the original book by H. G. Bissinger, Friday Night Lights was adapted by Peter Berg. The show was set in the Texas town of Dillon, following a high school football team. Chanler played Eric Taylor, the coach of the team, while Britton co-starred as his wife, Tami, a guidance counselor turned principal. The series ultimately ran for five seasons between 2006 and 2011, garnering high acclaim along the way. Katims, who is returning for the upcoming reboot that's in the works, also won an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.

A Friday Night Lights Sequel Movie Was Considered

At the time of the show's cancelation, Berg had spoken about his desire to continue the story with a sequel film. By 2013, however, he confirmed that the movie was not going to happen. At the time, Britton also stated that she and Chandler would only be interested in revisiting the franchise if it was for a reunion film. Though more than a decade has since passed, this may cast doubt on their characters making appearances in the new show.

"There's been a lot of talk about a lot of things," Britton said on Watch What Happens Live. "And some people are really excited about it, and other people aren't. I love the idea. I think it would be a great idea. But my former husband, Coach Eric Taylor [thinks we did it already]... Well, and he has a point. And we would only do it if it was going to be a great movie. That's the thing."

The Friday Night Lights reboot doesn't yet have a premiere date.
