Ice cream recall over listeria risk now affects over 70 products: See the list
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is expanding is ice cream recall due to listeria risk. The number if items on the full list of affected products now totals over 70.
The recall includes ice cream products manufactured by Totally Cool Inc., which were sold across the country at a variety of retailers. Popular brands affected include Jeni's, Hershey's, Friendly's and Chipwich. The items may be contaminated with listeria, a bacteria that can be deadly when consumed by certain groups of people, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
Ice cream recall over listeria
The manufacturer, Totally Cool Inc., announced the massive recall on ice cream products that were shipped across the country and available at retail stores and for direct delivery. The company has since stopped making and distributing the affected products, which includes pints of ice cream and sorbet, as well as a wide variety of ice cream cakes, sandwiches and cones.
Totally Cool Inc. initiated the recall after FDA sampling of its products turned up listeria, a bacteria that can cause an infection that can result in fever, headache, nausea, diarrhea and abdominal pain.
So far, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall, the company said.
The company is continuing to investigate the listeria contamination and urged consumers to return any affected products for a full refund.

Listeria monocytogenes is a type of bacteria that can cause serious or even fatal illness when consumed by certain groups of people, especially, among young children, older adults and those with weakened immune systems. In pregnant people, a listeria infection may lead to a miscarriage or stillbirth.
