How to clean white socks using this surprising household ingredient

To whiten and remove stubborn stains from socks, a cleaning expert and director of Daily Poppins has shared how to whiten socks without resorting to bleach. One of the top methods he suggested was to use lemon juice.
Nigel asserts that lemon juice possesses "powerful stain removal properties" which work wonders on laundry. He explained: "This is because the acid found in lemon is antibacterial, antiseptic and acts as a natural bleach.", reports the Express.
For this method, begin by placing your stained socks into a bowl of warm water infused with the juice of a freshly squeezed lemon for approximately two to three hours. Afterwards, remove them and put them in the washing machine on a regular wash for "sparkling clean socks".

Not only does the liquid brighten white socks, but it also serves as a natural fabric softener. This is due to the citric acid present in lemon juice breaking down the residues left by detergents or soaps.
For those who choose to use white vinegar or baking soda, these two methods take longer to work.

For the vinegar method, boil a litre of water, add 250ml of white vinegar and let it soak overnight.
The following day, run them through a regular spin cycle to eliminate any lingering vinegar smell and they're ready to wear.
For the baking soda approach, immerse the socks in warm water filled sink with a bit of baking soda for several hours.

Squeeze them dry, then put them in the washing machine with 150 to 200ml of baking soda in the detergent drawer, along with your regular washing powder.
Alternatively, you can use another common household item - washing up liquid, as suggested by Nigel.
Fill up the sink with warm water and mix in a substantial amount of washing-up liquid, let them soak overnight before washing as usual.
Since washing-up liquid lacks any softening features, add a cup of white vinegar to "help keep socks soft and fluffy".
