NASA discovers military base
NASA has released images of a nuclear military base built 30 meters below the ice cap, whose existence had been completely forgotten.
During a flyover in an autonomous aircraft, scientist Chad Greene detected an anomaly deep within the ice. Using radar imaging and 3D modeling, he was able to uncover what was hidden beneath the surface.
The base, named Camp Century, was constructed by the United States during the Cold War. It was designed to house nuclear warheads aimed at the USSR, to be deployed in the event of an enemy attack on American soil.
The secret base was abandoned after eight years of operation, and it wasn’t until 1997 that the underground structure was rediscovered.
Occupied between 1959 and 1967, the base was deserted following the emergence of several complex issues.
