Emma Roberts says she'd do another superhero movie after “Madame Web”, would like to get 'a little more action'
"I just got to wear a nine-month pregnant belly," Roberts said.
Madame Web didn't quite scratch Emma Roberts' superhero itch.
In a new interview with ComicBook.com, the actress said she had a great time playing a small supporting role in the Spider-Man spinoff but would still welcome a more expansive part in a future comic book movie.
"I was a civilian in Madame Web," Roberts said. "I loved getting to just pop in and play Peter Parker's mom, and I love the director of that movie [S.J. Clarkson]. I had so much fun. I think that playing comic book characters is so fun. I would love to get the chance to play one that gets a little more action, maybe."
The American Horror Story veteran added, "I would also love to play a witch again — I've seen some witch comic book characters that I would be into."
After a breakout role as the titular teen detective in 2007’s Nancy Drew, Roberts has largely eschewed franchise films, though she did appear in Scream 4 and UglyDolls.

In Madame Web, Roberts portrayed Mary Parker, who is pregnant with the boy who will one day become Spider-Man for the majority of her limited screen time (though Peter is not explicitly named). She's the sister-in-law of Ben Parker (Adam Scott), a.k.a. Uncle Ben, who plays a larger role in the movie as the only friend of protagonist Cassie (Dakota Johnson). Mary goes into labor while staying with Ben, which serves as a critical wrinkle in Cassie's plan to keep three threatened young women hidden at his house.
Elsewhere in the interview, Roberts noted that although she didn't wear a spandex costume in Madame Web, her role was still a heroic one.
"I just got to wear a nine-month pregnant belly," she said. "Again, that is heroic! You don't even know what that's like. And then I had to do it on American Horror Story, for another six months of my life wearing a belly. I should have three kids by now, and I only have one, with the amount of times I've had to be pregnant."

Other Madame Web cast members have had mixed responses to their time making the movie. Sydney Sweeney noted that the film was a utilitarian "building block" in furthering her career. "It's what allowed me to build a relationship with Sony. Without doing Madame Web I wouldn't have a relationship with the decision-makers over there," she said. "Because I did that, I was able to sell Anyone But You. I was able to get Barbarella."

Johnson described Madame Webless charitably than Roberts and Sweeney did, saying that the film's negative reviews didn't come as a shock.
"I'm not surprised that this has gone down the way it has,' she told Bustle. "I had never done anything like it before. I probably will never do anything like it again because I don't make sense in that world. And I know that now. But sometimes in this industry, you sign on to something, and it's one thing and then as you're making it, it becomes a completely different thing, and you're like, 'Wait, what?'"
