Van Helsing Greatly Altered Three of Its Classic Monsters - But Only Perfected One
Van Helsing was a horror thrill ride from start to finish while changing many aspects of its monsters. But only one truly benefited from the changes.
Van Helsing has made many appearances throughout the history of both film and television. The first appearance of the character dates back to the 1922 classic, Nosferatu, and was made iconic by Peter Cushing in Terence Fisher's Dracula, in 1958. Most recently, the Syfy channel had a show titled Van Helsing, which was loosely connected to the character that starred Kelly Overton as Vanessa Van Helsing, a distant relative of Abraham Van Helsing. That show ran for five seasons, from 2016-2021.
It Has Been 20 Years Since Hugh Jackman's Van Helsing Movie
The character of Van Helsing has been played by some of Hollywood's finest, including Hugh Jackman in 2004's Van Helsing. The 2004 version was helmed by Stephen Sommers, director of The Mummy andG.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and starred Jackman as the titular Van Helsing, Kate Beckinsale, Richard Roxburgh, David Wenham, and Shuler Hensley. It was considered a financial disappointment at the time, bringing in $120.2 million domestically, and $300.2 million worldwide on a budget of $160 million. The film was also not a critical darling, but it has developed a cult following of fans who remember the film fondly.
I Felt So Rejuvenated: Hugh Jackman Says Deadpool & Wolverine Will Show a New Side of Logan
Hugh Jackman teases fans to expect a new side to his iconic X-Men character in Marvel Studios upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine movie.
The Jackman-led film was released after he had two films as Wolverine under his belt, and at that point, he was one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood. While the film was never going to win an Academy Award for Best Picture, Van Helsing exhibits genuine moments of fun, monster mayhem, and borderline schlock that makes it a worthwhile watch even today. It also has a tremendous culminating fight that sees Van Helsing transform into a werewolf to fight Roxburgh's Dracula.
Van Helsing is available to stream on Hulu.
