The reboot of the classic 1941 monster tale is in theaters Jan. 17.

Christopher Abbott is terrorized by — and transforms into! — a deadly creature of the night in the trailer forWolf Man, a reboot of the classic 1941 monster tale withThe Invisible Mandirector Leigh Whannell now at the helm.

A new trailer released Friday introduces Abbott as Blake, a San Francisco-based husband and father who inherits his remote Oregon childhood home after his own father vanishes and is presumed dead. In an attempt to mend a marriage on the rocks, he persuades his high-powered wife, Charlotte (played by Julia Garner), to take a break from the city and pay a visit to the home with their daughter Ginger (Matilda Firth).

When the family arrives at the home in the dead of night, an unseen animal attacks. The walls of the home are their safe haven as the creature prowls the perimeter. But as "the night stretches on," the synopsis reads, the patriarch "begins to behave strangely, transforming into something unrecognizable" — and it's up to wife Charlotte to decide whether "the terror within their house is more lethal than the danger without."

Sam Jaeger, Ben Prendergast, and Benedict Hardie round out the cast of the film, produced by Blumhouse's Jason Blum and executive produced by Whannell, Ryan Gosling (who was initially attached to star but had to drop out), Ken Kao, and Bea Sequeira.

Wolf Manmarks an onscreen reunion between leads Abbott and Garner, who previously starred together on Sean Durkin's 2011 thriller Martha Marcy May Marlene. Abbott's recent credits include the indie It Doesn't Matter,Oscar-winning horror comedy Poor Things, and psychological thriller miniseries The Crowded Room.Garner is fresh off turns on drama series Ozarkand miniseriesInventing Anna, and filmThe Royal Hotel.
