‘Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy' Trailer: Renée Zellweger Falls for Leo Woodall in Final Installment of Rom-Com Franchise
Renee Zellweger is back in "Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy," the fourth and final movie in the rom-com series that's coming to Peacock on Feb. 13.
"Mad About the Boy" is based on the third novel in Helen Fielding's "Bridget Jones" book series. In addition Zellweger, Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson have both returned to reprise their roles as Daniel Cleaver and Dr. Rawlings. Other returning cast members include Jim Broadbent, Sarah Solemani, Sally Phillips, Shirley Henderson, James Callis, Neil Pearson, Joanna Scanlan and Celia Imrie. They will be joined by newcomers Chiwetel Ejiofor, Leo Woodall, Isla Fisher, Nico Parker, Josette Simon and Leila Farzad.
The official plot synopsis reads: "Bridget is alone once again, widowed four years ago, when Mark (Colin Firth) was killed on a humanitarian mission in the Sudan. She's now a single mother to 9-year-old Billy and 4-year-old Mabel, and is stuck in a state of emotional limbo, raising her children with help from her loyal friends and even her former lover, Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant). Pressured by her Urban Family -Shazzer, Jude and Tom, her work colleague Miranda, her mother, and her gynecologist Dr. Rawlings (Thompson) - to forge a new path toward life and love, Bridget goes back to work and even tries out the dating apps, where she's soon pursued by a dreamy and enthusiastic younger man (Woodall). Now juggling work, home and romance, Bridget grapples with the judgment of the perfect mums at school, worries about Billy as he struggles with the absence of his father, and engages in a series of awkward interactions with her son's rational-to-a-fault science teacher (Ejiofor)."
"Bridget Jones's Diary," the first movie in the series, was released in 2001 and grossed $282 million at the worldwide box office from a $25 million budget. That film was followed by "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason" in 2004 and "Bridget Jones's Baby" in 2016. The franchise in total has grossed over $760 million at the worldwide box office.
"Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy" is directed by Michael Morris with a script penned by Fielding, Dan Mazer and Abi Morgan. Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Jo Wallett produce through Working Title Films. Amelia Granger, Sarah-Jane Wright and Fielding serve as executive producers. StudioCanal will co-finance and co-distribute in select international territories. Miramax is also co-financing the film.
