Juan Soto injury update: Latest news on New York Yankees star's hand bruise
New York Yankees star outfielder Juan Soto was scratched from the starting lineup Saturday afternoon against the Toronto Blue Jays due to a hand bruise.
After brutal 9-3 loss on the road, manager Aaron Boone updated the media on the severity of Soto's injury after he had imaging during Saturday's game.
Boone said the X-rays on Soto's hand came back negative and is likely day-to-day.
Boone also said Soto woke up with swelling in his right hand after sliding home during the fourth inning of Friday's win over the Blue Jays.
It appears to be inflammation that is bothering Soto, and no further tests are scheduled right now.
On a potential double-play ball Friday night, Aaron Judge made a highly intelligent play to avoid being tagged on his way to second base and wound up in a pickle.
Soto scored on the close play at the plate but replays show that the 25-year-old's right hand came down hard on the dirt.
Even though Soto hit a monster three-run home run in his next at-bat and was in the lineup for Saturday's game, it appears the swelling was too much for him to handle.
For now, it seems as though Soto is day-to-day, and the Yankees are certainly going to take the cautious route even as they've lost 10 of their last 13 games.
