Eagles QB Jalen Hurts' perfect summer comes to abrupt end Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts made team training-camp history on Aug. 7 (his 26th birthday) by completing his 158th consecutive pass without an interception.

The two-time Pro Bowler had nearly doubled the streak going into Wednesday's final day of camp before cornerback teammate Darius Slay abruptly put an end to his perfect run.

According to 94WIP.com's Eliot Shorr-Parks, Hurts followed the pick by going 7-for-9 with a touchdown and two "great completions along the sideline." Per Shorr-Parks, the former MVP runner-up also hooked up with running back Kenneth Gainwell on a score and with wideout DeVonta Smith via a 35-yard heave for a touchdown on a "perfect throw," one which was "likely" his last throw of training camp.

Hurts had just 15 interceptions combined across his first two seasons as a full-time starter in 2021 and 2022. He finished with career highs in completion percentage (66.5%) and passer rating (101.5) while throwing for 3,701 passing yards and 22 touchdowns against just six interceptions during his 2022 campaign.

The former Heisman Trophy runner-up ranked fourth in the NFL in passer rating and pass interception percentage (1.3%) that year and earned his first Pro Bowl nod while finishing third in the AP Offensive Player of the Year voting. Hurts helped lead Philadelphia to Super Bowl LVII, where they fell to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Both he and the Eagles regressed in 2023, though, as the team dropped from 14 wins to 11 victories and was eliminated by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC wild-card round. Hurts posted career highs in passing yards (3,858) and passing touchdowns (23) — due in part to playing all 17 games — and made his second straight Pro Bowl, but his passer rating dropped to 89.1. Hurts' 15 interceptions were the most of his career, equaling his previous two years combined and ranking third in the NFL.

The 2020 second-round pick has looked as good as ever this summer and his offense is stocked like few other units in the NFL. Philadelphia returns Smith and co-star A.J. Brown as its top wide receivers, plus tight end Dallas Goedert. The franchise also signed two-time Pro Bowl running back Saquon Barkley over the offseason.

Hurts is not only looking to bounce back from a down 2023 season but also to lead the Eagles to their first Super Bowl title in seven seasons.
