Under Armour Celebrates WNBA Star Kelsey Plum's 30th Birthday With Two Limited-Edition Sneakers
Kelsey Plum doesn't turn 30 until Aug. 24, but Under Armour is already celebrating.
To honor the WNBA star, Under Armour has released a limited-edition iteration of its court-ready basketball shoe for women, the Breakthru 5, in an aptly named "Plum" colorway.
The look, Under Armour explained, is inspired by both the fruit and her last name. The brand executed the theme executed through the shoe's purple and orange hues, as well as the "dew" droplets that adorn the uppers. Combined, Under Armour stated it offers the look "of a fresh plum one might find at a farmer's market." They also feature a Kelsey Plum fruit sticker "to give that authentic fruit feel."
Under Armour built the Breakthru 5 performance style with its breathable UA IntelliKnit uppers that also feature synthetic leather overlays for lightweight stability, as well as female-specific nylon shanks designed with support in mind, bouncy UA Flow cushioning technology and durable UA Flow outsoles.
The Under Armour Breakthru 5 "Plum" is available now via UA.com for $135.
Under Armour confirmed Plum will debut the sneakers on court on Aug. 21 against the Minnesota Lynx. What's more, the brand stated the Breakthru 5 "Plum" is just one of her player exclusive colorways that it will release.
Aside from the new-look Breakthru 5, Under Armour has also released a limited-edition "Plum" colorway of its running-inspired Apparition silhouette, which retails for $110 via UA.com.
"This makes me so proud to be a Plum. This collection is so cool and I am excited that fans can finally get in on the action and represent with their own pair of ‘Plums,'" the two-time WNBA champion said in a statement.
