Kevin Owens updates us on his WWE contract status, and his mom’s health
Back in May, Kevin Owens revealed that his WWE contract would expire in early 2025. At the time, he said he had nine months remaining on his current deal.
We haven’t heard KO listed among the talents who’ve re-signed with WWE this year, so it stands to reason that he now has six months left on the contract he signed in 2021. Owens didn’t say anything that contradicted our math when he told our old friend Rick Ucchino (now with SI.com — congrats, Rick!) that “the only change in his contract status since then is that there’s now less time on his deal.”
Still feels like a long-shot that WWE would let the former Universal champion get away, and the fact Owens is talking publicly about raises the possibility his impending free agency could become an on-screen storyline. But it is a never say never business.
More importantly, Rick got an update on Kevin’s mother. Prior to July’s Money in the Bank event in Toronto, KO delivered a promo on SmackDown in which he revealed his mom was hospitalized in Quebec and “fighting like hell”. He later tweeted and deleted that she’d “kicked out”, but he offered a bit more detail while talking to The Takedown on SI:
“She’s doing a lot better. It got real scary for a while and now she’s home. So it’s definitely positive and everybody else is doing as good as they can, I guess. It’s a lot better than it was at the beginning of July.”
Keep fighting, Mama Steen (KO’s real last name). We’ll keep you posted with any news about her son’s contract status.
