What Are The Benefits And Drawbacks Of Eating Whole Wheat Slice Bread? A Review By Nutrition Professionals
Expert opinion from Cassia D Muller

The amount of advantages and disadvantages varies according to the ingredient list of each one. It is important to observe especially if the bread is made only of whole meal flour or if it is mixed with white flour (some even have more white flour than whole meal), and prefer those that have 100% whole meal flour. The benefit is that because it contains more fibers, it gives you more satiety and helps with weight loss, because the more satiated, the less hungry we feel. The bad thing is that some have many additives, which can harm the functioning of the intestine, so this is another important point to note on the ingredients list before buying.

Whole wheat bread carries numerous benefits. It is high in fiber which helps to diversify the gut microbiome, lower or maintain healthy levels of cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar. Whole wheat bread is also high in magnesium and vitamin B6. There is no drawback to consuming whole wheat bread however, if you do consume this in excess the high fiber content can result in gastrointestinal side effects such as cramping, gas formation and diarrhea.
