Heat exhaustion or heat stroke can be recognized by certain symptoms like a raised body temperature of more than 103 degrees Fahrenheit. Heat stroke happens when the body temperature rises for more than 106 degrees F and lasts for about 10 to 15 minutes. If not treated immediately, it can lead to swelling and damage to the brain and other vital organs. This can cause permanent organ damage and can lead to death. There will be symptoms of hot red skin, dizziness, nausea, fast stronger pulse, headache, confusion, and loss of consciousness in heat stroke. In heat exhaustion, there will be signs of heavy profuse sweating, cold clammy skin, muscle cramps, fast weak pulse, dizziness, headache, and passing out. Heat stroke and heat exhaustion can be avoided by wearing light and loose clothing, drinking plenty of fluids, avoiding excess exercise, avoiding sunlight in the afternoon hours, avoiding consumption of alcohol, taking cool baths, placing cool wet clothes on the body, cold pack application, taking oral rehydration solution, and moving to a cooler place.
