Putin wants to show who's boss
French criminologist and political scientist Hélène Blanc looks back at Putin's ceasefire proposal and analyses his behaviour.
Speaking to French medium La Dépêche, the political scientist argues that Putin's proposed peace agreement "is not a negotiation, but a diktat".
According to her, the Russian president never negotiates. "Vladimir Putin has never negotiated in his life. It is not part of his culture or habits. He has always imposed his will in defiance of the law and he does not care about national or international law. With such announcements, he also hopes to influence Ukraine's possible entry into NATO, which he fears."
"As I know him, he will have been furious when he learned he was not invited to the peace summit in Switzerland," the expert adds. "Because Putin wants to show that he is still in charge."
"I think he lives in his own world, which he has invented for himself," Blanc continued. "He has made up a story that has nothing to do with the real story. To this day he feels that the war is not his fault. For him, it is NATO and the West, with Kiev's complicity, that are responsible for this war. This is the reversal of the burden of proof we have seen since the beginning of this war".

NewsPutin lunges for 'banned' missiles
Russia should actually start producing short- and medium-range missiles. That is what Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday at a meeting of senior security officials. Putin was referring to missiles with a range of 500 to 5,500 kilometers from an agreement that was lifted in 2019. These kind of missiles were long banned by a treaty with the United States, but that treaty has since ceased to be in force. At issue is the 1987 INF treaty...
