Those thirsty for a UK break with a difference now have the option of renting an entire 16th-century pub.
The Boar’s Head in Bishop’s Castle, Shropshire, sleeps 23 and is available to rent via Sykes Holiday Cottages.
The holiday firm explains that owner Darren Price transformed the building back in 2020 ‘to keep the historic building in use and attract visitors to the area’.
Sykes Holiday Cottages says that Darren ‘has maintained the look and feel of a traditional pub, with exposed brick, roaring woodburning stoves, and an all-important bar that holidaymakers can help themselves to’.
The site continues: ‘Adding to the atmosphere, the holiday let also has a games room complete with a darts board, Pac-Man machine, and pool table, with the garden area boasting a hot tub, outdoor speaker, and seating area. Pint-pulling lessons are also on offer for those looking to brush up on their skills.’
Guests can make full use of the pub’s commercial kitchen and its array of appliances – and can also call on Darren and his team to 'whip them up a full English breakfast'.
Guests also have full use of the traditional bar with personal packages available from the owner to either supply a stocked bar with beers on tap, or guests can bring their own supplies.
Nearby attractions include Bishop’s Castle, walking routes such as Offa’s Dyke and Long Mynd, and National Trust points of interest such as Powys and Ludlow Castle.
The pub has proved a big hit with those who have checked in and has already secured 45 bookings for 2024.
In a review on the Sykes Cottages website, 'Ash' wrote: 'The pub is exactly as it would be if it were open to the public, except for some amazing additions such as the hot tub, sauna etc.
'Location couldn't be any better, with shops, other nice pubs and cafes within a few mins walk, and the lovely countryside views surrounding the town.
'The kitchen was very well equipped [for] cooking for large groups, which meant we got real value for money for our trip by catering for ourselves.
'The landlord was very responsive when we had questions, coming back to us immediately with answers. The only low point of the weekend was having to leave!'
Owner Darren said: ‘I wanted to give something back to the local community with The Boar’s Head and it’s great to be able to attract so many lovely people to the area who travel from far and wide to stay with us.
‘Steeped in character as the oldest pub in Bishop’s Castle, our unique property provides the complete holiday package, putting my 16 years of hospitability experience to use to ensure every guest has the best possible time.
‘Helping families and friends make memories through holiday letting is so rewarding and having Sykes with me every step of the way has been a dream. I use them for my own staycations and they’ve been just as helpful on the other side!’
