Sultan Ibrahim's 'Chopper' bicycle he bought as a kid among items in 'Raja Kita' exhibition

PETALING JAYA: Items from His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia's personal collection will be exhibited at the 'Raja Kita' exhibition at Muzium Negara in Kuala Lumpur, says Fahmi Fadzil.

The Communications Minister said the exhibition will last for two months but His Majesty's personal collection will only be exhibited from July 25 to 30.

"There will be special exhibits owned by the King and the Queen (Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah) including a 'Chopper' bicycle, which he bought when he was a kid using the money he earned selling glass bottles.

"I encourage the public to take this opportunity to visit the exhibition which will also feature other Royal regalia," he said in an interview on TV3's Malaysia Hari Ini on Tuesday (July 16).

Sultan Ibrahim will be installed as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Saturday (July 20).

Fahmi said several other events are also scheduled leading up to the majestic installation such as a Yasin recital and special Friday sermon at the Masjid Negara and will conclude with a Royal high tea reception at Istana Negara.

Fahmi is the chairman of the Special Committee for the King's installation events.

He said the dedication and commitment of Istana Negara officials and Prime Minister's Office protocol unit were top notch.

"They are always ready to do their best and they don't take anything lightly in preparing for the ceremony," he said.

Fahmi said that a rehearsal for the installation will take place at the Istana Negara where two cannon shots will be fired at 9.30am on Friday (July 19).

"I would like to remind the public in Kuala Lumpur not to be alarmed when hearing the shots as it is part of the rehearsal.

"On Saturday, there will be 21 cannon shots from Istana Negara," he added.

He also said that public screenings of the installation ceremony will be available at 222 locations nationwide.

He added that this will be in collaboration with the Information Department and Komuniti Madani.

"The list of the locations will be issued by the Information Department soon," he added.

On Monday (July 15), Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said that 14 roads in the city will be temporarily closed in stages to ensure smooth traffic flow for the installation ceremony.

The 14 roads involved are Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Kia Peng, Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Sultan Iskandar Expressway, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim, Jalan Semantan, Jalan Damansara, Jalan Istana, Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Expressway, Jalan Kuching (southbound), Dato Onn Roundabout and Jalan Parlimen.
