Flash floods hit KL after heavy rain

PETALING JAYA: Parts of Kuala Lumpur have been affected by flash floods after heavy rain this evening, which is expected to worsen traffic congestion around the city.

According to Astro Radio Traffic, flash floods have been reported on several roads such as the Segambut bypass, Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, Jalan Pahang, Jalan Genting Klang, Jalan Dutamas, Jalan Kepong and Jalan Kuching.

Some of these waterlogged roads are said to be nearly impassable for vehicles.

Netizens also shared videos of the flash floods in Sentul, Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Tun Ismail.

Astro Radio Traffic also reported a landslide on Jalan Genting Klang near Taman Bunga Raya, causing further congestion from Jalan Pahang to the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2).

A retaining wall in Taman Bunga Raya collapsed this evening, affecting a house in the area.

The occupants of the affected house and nearby areas had been instructed to evacuate temporarily for safety reasons, as the ground was still unstable, Bernama reported.

Netizens also reported that flood sirens were sounded in Masjid Jamek.

FMT has reached out to Kuala Lumpur City Hall for comment.

Meanwhile, The Star reported that the general meetings of Umno’s Women, Youth and Puteri wings were paused after flash floods affected World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur’s parking lot.

Delegates parked at the open-air car park were urged to relocate their cars with water levels at the nearby Gombak river exceeding dangerous levels.
