Groups urge probe on videos claiming there are no Indians, only Tamils

PETALING JAYA: MIC Youth and a number of NGOs have urged the police to investigate several TikTok videos for allegedly spreading hate speech against the Malaysian Indian community.

Global Human Rights Federation (GHRF) committee member S Sivakumar said a police report has been lodged over three videos, which claimed that there is no such thing as an Indian race.

“These videos have (allegedly) claimed there is no Indian race but only one Tamil race. They ignored the reality that we have various Indian ethnicities such as Telugu, Malayalee, Tamil, Punjabi and others,” he said in a statement.

The police report was filed by a concerned citizen, M Sivaneswary, at the Sentul police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

MIC Youth, Malaysia Hindu Sangam, Kebajikan Masyarakat Sungai Buloh, One Malaysia Indian Association, and Persatuan Kebajikan India Otrumai Padai were present to support the cause.

Sivakumar claimed that the TikTok videos labelled Indian mothers as “prostitutes” and Hindu worshippers as “pigs”.

He alleged that the videos also made threatening remarks against India’s prime minister Narendra Modi on the eve of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s official visit to India last week.

“They intend to disrupt the peace, unity and harmony among Malaysians. We urge the authorities to investigate the matter seriously. These people must be charged to set an example that this is not a lawless country,” Sivakumar said.

FMT has reached out to the police for comment.
