Gombak Setia rep Hilman is new Bersatu Youth chief
PETALING JAYA: Gombak Setia assemblyman Hilman Idham has been elected as the new Bersatu Youth chief, the party’s election committee announced today.
He takes over the post from Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.
Hilman, a former PKR Youth deputy chief, received a total of 1,888 votes to beat Bersatu Youth’s permanent chairman Akmal Zahin Zainal Zahir, who garnered 1,718 votes.
The official results were announced by Bersatu’s election committee chairman Abdul Azim Zabidi at a press conference held at the party’s headquarters this evening.
Meanwhile, Faiz Rahman was announced as the deputy for the youth wing after securing 1,790 votes. He defeated Seberang Jaya assemblyman Izhar Shah Arif Shah, who received 1,287 votes, and Adib Shaharuddin, who received 490 votes.
The position of permanent chairman was won by Amerul Muhamad, while Firdaus Zaini was elected as his deputy.
On Sunday, it was reported that Akmal had unofficially won the Bersatu Youth chief position, defeating Hilman.
The wing’s vote counting centre had then revealed that Akmal garnered 2,432 votes, 76 votes more than Hilman’s 2,356.
However, Azim yesterday said the official results would be announced today following a review of several objections and complaints received.
Today, he said that in total, the election committee received 27 complaints and objections related to regulations on the party’s assemblies, election procedures, ballot issuance, delegate eligibility, and vote counting process.
“The committee has made appropriate decisions within its authority, as granted by the party constitution and Supreme Council,” he said.
Azim added that 111 divisions held their meetings, with voter turnout for the youth wing elections standing at 42% of the 9,076 eligible delegates.
