How did Lovi Poe handle the criticism about her skin color and being flat-chested when she was starting in showbiz?

Actress Lovi Poe recently opened up about the body shaming and skepticism she faced early in her career.

During a contract signing event for her second year as an endorser for Skin Care Depot (SCD) at Seda Hotel, Vertis North on May 11, Poe shared her experiences and how she overcame them.

Poe recalled that when she started in showbiz at 15, some people doubted her potential because of her dark skin and small bust.

“I remember before when I was starting I was told I’m gonna share it na lang that I was never gonna make it because I was dark-skinned. I was never gonna make it because I don’t have (boobs)…I’m flat-chested,” she said. “At nag-stick sa akin yun kasi hindi ako nagpatalo sa ganu’ng comment.”

Despite the negativity, Poe decided to focus on her strengths and improve her skills. “I was like, ‘You know what? Who cares? You know what, I’ll just do me’ and I was just like, ‘If they don’t want that I’m flat-chested, I don’t care. Gagalingan ko na lang sa pag-arte. Gagalingan ko na lang sa ibang aspect, and so what?’ I have that ‘so what’ attitude,’” she added.

As she matured, Poe learned the importance of self-care, becoming more conscious of her diet, sleep rituals, and work habits.

Poe also addressed whether she ever considered breast augmentation. “I’m too paranoid to do anything like that. So, I’m happy that I didn’t. Because now, I can wear anything I want. Sa totoo lang, nakakainggit ‘yung mga taong may side boob (natawa). Pag nakikita ko sila, sana all!,” she laughed.

She also spoke about her husband, Montgomery ‘Monty’ Blencowe, who will be returning to the Philippines soon to start filming a movie they are producing together, directed by Jerrold Tarog. She mentioned the challenges of their long-distance relationship (LDR), having been apart for four years before their marriage in August 2023. Despite the difficulties, Poe believes in finding a balance and making time for each other.

When asked if her contract with SCD had any pregnancy clauses, SCD CEO Gracee M. Angeles clarified, “We support Lovi in whatever she chooses. Our beauty products are suitable even for pregnant women.”

Poe expressed her gratitude for being reappointed as the face of Skin Care Depot. “I’m just so happy to be part of this family. Thank you so much for having me,” she said.

Lovi Poe’s resilience and positive attitude toward her body and career continue to inspire many, proving that inner strength and self-love are key to overcoming adversity.
