Gel Aquino sings heartbreak and loss in new single
Singer-songwriter Gel Aquino released her newest single "Kinakaya" under GMA Music.
"Kinakaya" is a song about heartbreak and loss written by Aquino in 2020.
Its message captures the challenges of trying to make it through the pain of being strong, not giving up, and being able to move forward in life.
According to the artist, "Kinakaya" was inspired by those who have been hurt by love and left by their loved ones.
"When I wrote this, I was actively composing songs. During that time, I was also brokenhearted and very depressed during the pandemic," she shared.
Aside from a personal heartbreak, Aquino said she was also devastated when she found out her grandmother passed away.
"I have been independent from my family for a long time. I didn't communicate much with my family. They just messaged me that my grandmother had passed away; she had been gone for two months. That's why during that time, May 2020, I kept dreaming about her, happy that we were together," Aquino said.
"I wrote this song as a memory. We didn't even get to see each other before she died. I cried for two months straight. I didn't know right away that my grandmother had passed away," she continued.
"I wrote this song for my grandmother and for those who have experienced being left by a loved one, whether in a relationship or family," Aquino added.
Writing "Kinakaya" also served as a tool for Aquino's healing, "It really helped me in my healing process. Through writing the song, I expressed my feelings and pain."
"I believe that to heal, we need to help other people. We can transform ourselves to be better through pain," she shared.
"We need time to heal. Don't lose hope even if the pain seems endless. There will come a time when you will be happy again, and you will become a stronger and better version of yourself. The pain we feel from being left by someone, we just need time to heal, and don't lose hope," Aquino concluded.
Listen to "Kinakaya" now out on all music streaming platforms.
