AKTOR, led by Dingdong Dantes, expresses disappointment with FAMAS Awards
The AKTOR League of Filipino Actors, led by renowned actors Dingdong Dantes and Piolo Pascual, has expressed support and sympathy for veteran actress Eva Darren following a controversy at the FAMAS Awards Night.
The organization criticized the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) for what they perceived as disrespect towards Darren.
The incident arose when Darren’s name was unexpectedly removed from the list of presenters during the awards ceremony.
In an official statement posted on Facebook, AKTOR highlighted the significance of such events and the need for proper management.
“An awards night is a moment of celebration, extending beyond mere victory and trophies. It serves as a gathering for the entire community, offering a chance to unite and acknowledge the talents and artistry of each member,” the statement began.
“It is ironic that the event last Sunday, which was supposed to honor the iconic pillars of the country, was marred by an unfortunate incident that happened to one of our respected and beloved peers during a celebration with industry members at one of the oldest award-giving bodies. We are deeply saddened by the seeming lapse in the management of the program,” it continued.
AKTOR emphasized the importance of protecting and honoring the Filipino film industry, calling for a restoration of respect and authenticity in its events.
“Now, more than ever, it’s crucial to safeguard and honor the Filipino film industry, restoring both respect and authenticity to its events. AKTOR, the League of Filipino Actors, extends its warmest support and solidarity to Ms. Eva Darren,” the group added.
The incident remains a hot topic, with many discussing the perceived disrespect shown towards Eva Darren when she was not allowed to take the stage as a presenter. Darren’s son, Fernando de la Pena, expressed their grievances through an open letter on Facebook.
In response, FAMAS issued a public apology for their mistake, which the actress and her family have since accepted.
