Jed Madela gears up for grand birthday show
Jed Madela, in anticipation of his upcoming concert on July 5 at the Music Museum, held a media conference that also celebrated the milestones and successes of his distinguished career.
Since 2003, Jed Madela — dubbed as "The Voice" because of his powerful vocals — has released 11 albums, including nine studio albums, a holiday album, and a compilation album. He is also the first Filipino to be inducted as hall of famer in the performing arts hall in Hollywood.
When asked if he remembers the song that started it all for him, Madela answered "Superman (It's Not Easy)" by Five for Fighting.
"I chose that song to introduce myself, to show that I may have this powerful voice, but I'm also human. And I had it arranged to make it a big, big song, and that was the first song that really became my anthem," Madela shared.
In 2017, he joined the panel of judges in "Showtime's" Tawag ng Tanghalan and has served as a recurring judge for 11 seasons. He also judged "Your Face Sounds Familiar" for two seasons and became a vocal mentor for the celebrity contestants for another two seasons. He is regularly seen on the variety show "ASAP" every Sunday.
He recently renewed his contract with Star Magic, marking 14 years since he joined the talent management in 2010.
"I'm still with Star Magic, right? And I spoke with Laurenti Dyogi. I asked him, 'Direk Lauren, what else do you see in me that I can do?' I'm open to whatever projects direk Lauren thinks are suitable for me."
Madela is a seasoned performer with a string of successful concerts under his belt. His first solo concert took place at the Araneta Coliseum in 2018. In 2020, he headlined an exclusive online digital concert titled "New Normal." In December 2023, he celebrated two decades of musical brilliance with the "Here & Now" concert, and on July 5, he is set to mark his birthday with a special concert, "Welcome to My World."
"'Welcome to My World' is going to be a general story of what I've been through in the past 20 years, what I am going through at this moment, and what my plans are for the near future," Madela explained.
He added in jest, "The concert 'Welcome to My World' is extra special. In my past concerts, I was hands-on, but for this concert, I'm even feet-on."
The international scene will also have a chance to witness Madela's upcoming performances this year. All is set for his series of shows abroad on the following dates: July 12 at Sheraton Laguardia East Hotel Flushing, New York; and July 27 at Ovation Hollywood. He will then be back to his hometown on September 21 at the Iloilo Convention Center.
With a career worthy of acclaim, Jed Madela has established himself as a celebrated artist both in the Philippines and on the international stage. His achievements deserve recognition and continued celebration. And his upcoming concert, "Welcome to My World," is just one of many more to come.
