SB19, first Southeast Asian group to be featured in hit Japanese YouTube channel
P-pop supergroup SB19 takes the world stage yet again with a fiery performance of their hit song "Gento," released on the Japanese YouTube channel "The First Take."
The five-member boy group consisting of Ken, Pablo, Josh, Stell, and Justin, is the first Filipino and Southeast Asian artist to perform on the channel for its 449th episode.
"You know, I'm so excited and I'm so nervous at the same time," said Pablo before their performance, replying to Josh's remarks about the studio's appearance.
Wearing green casual outfits, the group showcased their powerful vocals and catchy adlibs in the all-white studio, their act recorded in only one take.
"Enjoy the song, which expresses the message that it is the accumulation of small efforts that lead to success," The First Take captioned in their Instagram post featuring a photo of SB19.
Released in May 2023, their song "Gento," — included in their second EP "Pagtatag!" — started a trend of dance covers by ordinary netizens and even celebrities.
Currently, the group's performance video in "The First Take" has almost 500,000 views already, with loyal A'TIN expressing their support for their Filipino idols in the comment section.
SB19's act has also trended online, specifically on the social media platform X, with fans using the hashtag #SB19 and #Gento.
Sticking to their channel name, the Japanese music outlet "The First Take" consists of performances of various artists around the globe, showcasing their music usually recorded in a single take, with only a plain white backdrop and microphone.
Aside from popular Japanese singers and bands, several international artists have also appeared on the channel such as Maluma, Avril Lavigne, Harry Styles, K-Pop superstars V of BTS, Stray Kids, RIIZE, (G)I-DLE, and Itzy.
