Maris Racal celebrates career successes
Maris Racal was one of the artists featured at this month’s Star Magic Spotlight press conference, held on July 12, 2024, at Coffee Project in Wil Tower Mall, Quezon City.
Fresh from her fan-favorite role as Irene Tiu in the recently concluded TV series ‘Can’t Buy Me Love,’ Maris Racal steps into the spotlight with the lead role in the dark comedy film ‘Marupok AF.’ There is much to anticipate for this young artist who continues to resonate deeply with today’s generation.
“Yung pinaka-proud ako is ‘yung Irene Tiu. ‘Yun talaga yung nag-open ng doors sakin ngayon parang endless parin ‘yung blessings and thankful ako sa universe na patuloy pa rin ang blessings. Unexpected siya.” Maris said.
In 2014, Maris began her industry journey as the 2nd Big Winner of Pinoy Big Brother: All In, marking the start of a flourishing career under Star Magic. Since then, she has excelled in various roles as an actress, dancer, singer-songwriter, vlogger/content creator, endorser, and entrepreneur.
She has graced Philippine television with memorable roles in ‘Hawak Kamay’ (2014), ‘Maalaala Mo Kaya,’ ‘Ipaglaban Mo!,’ ‘Oh My G!,’ and ‘How to Move On in 30 Days’ (2022), among others. Her standout performance in ‘Here Comes the Groom’ earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the MMFF.
“Nakaka-warm pa rin ng heart. Naalala ko ‘yung 16-year-old Maris na nag-wowonder, ‘what’s coming for her?’. Now the older Maris seeing it, napatunayan mo talaga sarili mo. Pinakita niya na kaya niya ang buhay Showbiz.” Maris shared while looking back on her career spanning 10 years.
Her name soared to prominence as she charmed audiences with her portrayal of Irene Tiu with her on-screen partner, Anthony Jennings, showcasing her unique personality and wit, which endeared her character to viewers.
When asked about her loveteam with Anthony, called ‘MaThon,’ Maris said, “Kami ni Anthony, grabe ‘yung mga pangarap namin. Sana after the movie na gawin namin, mag-bunga pa kasi we have that special rapport na hindi ko ma-mimic with other people. Masarap siya katrabaho, ka-banter and ka-eksena. Sana makagawa kami ng films na in 50 years, people will look back and will be in their Top 3 or Top 5, ‘yung classic ganun.”
When asked about the nature of her role in “Marupok AF”, “Na-challenge ako kasi before Irene Tiu, Beanie was the first complex character that I played. Charming siya but she has very dark intentions towards people. Dun ako na-challenge, so I really prepared. Nanuod ako ng films na like that to get into the zone.”
“Na-coconfuse ako sa feeling. Kasi if it’s fiction, masaya like na-enjoy ko siya. But we’re dealing with real events kasi so ang gray area ko dun ay I’m happy na natutuwa sila sa character ko, but ang gusto ko talaga ay i-symphathize nila ang victim.”, she shared.
As Maris Racal continues to excel in acting and music, her diverse talents and relatable, humorous, and lovable personality ensure that she will remain a household name for years. This guarantees that she will continue to be a beloved figure in the entertainment landscape for the foreseeable future.
