Anjo Pertierra was among the Marikina residents who had to evacuate after their homes were flooded due to Super Typhoon Carina.

On "Unang Hirit" Thursday, the Kapuso broadcaster detailed his harrowing experience and his journey to make it to work on “Unang Hirit.”

His videos showed strong floodwaters inside Anjo’s home. According to Anjo, flood quickly entered his room, which is located in the basement. He could no longer open his door "sa dami ng tubig sa loob at sa tindi ng water pressure.”

Anjo, who stands 6’2”, added the flood reached his chest. “Sa average po na Pilipino, minsan nasa leeg na po nila o nasa tenga na po nila ‘yung taas nung tubig kahapon,” he said.

The reporter was eventually rescued by authorities through a paddle boat along with other families as his car was already flooded.

“Wala ‘kong nasalbang gamit," Anjo said. "Ang nakuha ko lang, apat na t-shirt, gawa nga po ng sobrang bilis po ng pagtaas ng tubig sa aking bahay."

The shirt he was wearing on "Unang Hirit" was actually bought by the morning show's stylist on Wednesday, just so he had something to wear on TV come Thursday.

“Pero wala po talaga akong nasalba na kahit ano,” he said.

Anjo was back on “Unang Hirit” Thursday, giving weather updates and showing the current situation of the Marikina River, which exceed its limit on Wednesday, caused widespread flooding, and forced residents to evacuate.

Metro Manila was placed under a state of calamity Wednesday amid severe flooding. Malls and other establishments provided shelter, parking spaces, bathrooms, and internet signal.

Carina has exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Thursday morning, but a number of areas in Metro Manila remain flooded.

PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres on Unang Balita Thursday said Carina will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon or habagat that will bring moderate to intense rains over the western section of Luzon.

Several organizations, including GMA Kapuso Foundation, have also opened up donation drives to benefit those affected by the super typhoon.
