Air passengers can now bring extension cords and power strips in their carry-on luggage, the Office for Transportation Security announced Thursday.

The new policy, which took effect on May 15, was issued pending the review of the OTS Prohibited Items List, the agency said.

The OTS said the latest policy comes after complaints from passengers and is in line with the Department of Transportation’s guidance to provide seamless travel experiences.

“OTS strives to improve its policies to provide balance between security and passenger convenience in line with Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista’s guidance to provide comfortable, accessible, safe, sustainable, affordable, and seamless travel for all,” the OTS said in a statement.

Extension cords were previously required to be checked in when traveling by plane.

Other items that are not allowed in carry-on baggage are firearms, objects with sharp points and edges, worker tools, blunt instruments, chemicals, liquids in containers exceeding 100 ml, and toxic substances. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/VBL, GMA Integrated News
