LIST: Filipino Celebrities Who Are Pro-Divorce

The internet has turned into a buzzing beehive of chatter and debate ever since the proposed Absolute Divorce Bill hit the headlines. This proposal has everyone talking, and a growing chorus of voices is shouting out in favor of divorce. From regular folks to the glitterati, including some of our favorite Filipino celebrities, people are jumping into the fray. Here are celebs using their star power to push for meaningful change.

List Of Filipino Celebrities Who Are Pro-Divorce

1. Anne Curtis

Anne Curtis, known for her straightforwardness on important social issues, didn't hold back after hearing the initial results of the vote on the divorce bill. She quickly shared the news on her Twitter, adding a touch of sarcasm with the caption, "Puro lalake ['yung] nag no."

This isn't the first time Curtis voiced her support for a divorce law in the Philippines. Her outspokenness extends to various platforms, including her role on the popular afternoon television segment "It's Showtime." During a casual conversation with co-host Vice Ganda, Curtis didn't shy away from expressing her hope for the passage of the divorce bill, stating, "Sana mapasa muna ang divorce bill."

2. Vice Ganda

It is no longer surprising that Vice Ganda is included in the roster of Filipino celebrities who are pro divorce. For the past years, Vice Ganda has been vocal in advocating for social issues, including the dispute in the West Philippine Sea with his 'Piliin Mo Ang Pilipinas' entry.

In line with his commitment to social advocacy, Vice Ganda has lent his support to the movement for the legalization of divorce in the Philippines. His alignment with this cause was prominently displayed during a recent episode of the television segment "It's Showtime." There, Vice Ganda echoed Anne Curtis's sentiment by openly expressing his desire for the passage of the divorce bill.

3. Maxene Magallona

Maxene Magallonahas been using her platform to advocate for peace and mental well-being. In light of the Mental Health Awareness Month, Maxene posted to Instagram her thoughts on the importance of walking away from toxic relationships.

In her caption, the actress emphasized that "people don't get married with the guarantee that the relationship will work." While acknowledging the sacred nature of marriage, she also recognized the reality that many individuals may overlook the importance of personal healing and growth, which can negatively impact relationships. This oversight, she pointed out, can result in what was intended to be a sacred union turning into a toxic and traumatic bond, often leading to abuse.

Maxene further emphasized that nobody should feel obligated to remain in a relationship that "diminishes their self-worth." She argued that divorce can actually help safeguard the sanctity of marriages by allowing individuals to exit harmful situations and pursue healthier paths.

4. Pia Wurtzbach

Pia Wurtzbach proves, once again, that she is the beauty queen that Filipinos deserve. As someone who is "beautiful with a heart" she indeed has her heart set on being progressive when it comes to social issues. She has been vocal in speaking her support for equality including same gender marriage, access to safe abortion, and even divorce.

In her Instagram story from 2022, Pia expressed her dismay over the rejection of bill proposals aimed at promoting equality and human rights, including divorce. The actress said that the dismissal of these legislative initiatives symbolized exclusion and a missed opportunity for progress.

5. Inka Magnaye

Inka Magnaye, known for her boldness on relevant social issues and taboo topics, continues to spark conversations that resonate deeply with many. Recently, her Twitter post addressing her views on divorce has stirred a wave of mixed emotions and garnered significant traction from netizens.

Inka used humor to point out that being pro divorce does not make you a bad person. Ironically, there are people who are anti-divorce and yet exhibit behaviors that are detrimental to relationships, such as being abusive, promiscuous, or manipulative.

In a Tweet, Inka said "I'd rather be pro-divorce and be an attentive partner than be anti-divorcepero nananapak ng asawa."

6. Maggie Wilson

Maggie Wilson voiced her support for the divorce bill in the Philippines via her Instagram stories. She reposted Maxene Magallona's statement, "We deserve divorce."

Maggie announced her separation from Victory Consunji in 2021, and tensions between them have escalated since 2022.
