Here's Why Philippine Airlines Is Halting its Cebu-Baguio Flights

Flying from Cebu to Baguio City and vice-versa will no longer be available to travelers soon, with the direct flights mounted by Philippine Airlines (PAL) set to end on July 1. This means tourists, as well as those going on business trips to both cities, will have no choice but to travel by land or sea again.

The halting of the flights is attributed to"poor" passenger traffic between Cebu and Baguio, even though both cities are among renowned tourist destinations in the Philippines. Because of this, the flag carrier says it needs to make certain "route network adjustments."

Traveling from Cebu to Baguio via plane takes an hour and 45 minutes on average. This is undoubtedly a lot faster and easier than going for a long drive, which could last for more than a day, or roughly 26 hours. At this rate, it might even be better to fly to Manila first before heading to Baguio, as traveling by land will only take around five to six hours from the metro. Travelers can also try flying from Cebu to Clark, Pampanga and then driving from there, which will take even less time.

The direct flights between Cebu and Baguio were launched back in December 2022. PAL assures affected travelers they will receive refunds beginning July.

"Passengers of the cancelled Cebu-Baguio-Cebu [flights] will be provided the necessary assistance," it said in a statement."We remain supportive of [the] local government’s initiatives in promoting Baguio as a destination."
