In 2023, since life got in the way, I missed out on the chance to see Kim Soo Hyun. He held a fan meeting organized by the donut brand he endorsed. Then came Queen of Tears last March, which endeared me to Baek Hyun Woo, aside from Hong Hae In and the other Queens Group and Yongduri characters. You can just imagine how thrilled I was when Wilbros Live announced the Manila leg of his "Eyes on You" 2024 Tour—Kim Soo Hyun’s first legit fan meeting in 10 years.

It was nothing short of a dream come true. Excitement filled the Araneta Coliseum as I joined thousands of fellow fans to see the Korean superstar live last June 29, 2024. There were even a few "June brides" in the house as we met the oppa whom Korea dubbed as "Nation's Husband."

Here’s a recap of the most kilig-worthy lines and highlights from Kim Soo Hyun’s fan meeting:

"I was born to love you with all my heart"

Kim Soo Hyun started, sustained, and ended the show literally on a high note. He shared his love for singing with the Filo fans. The atmosphere was electric the moment he took the stage and began singing "Love You With All My Heart." The original soundtrack from his hit drama, Queen of Tears, moved the crowd and set the lovely tone for the evening.

In the middle and toward the end of the show, he sang English songs like "All of Me" and "Wherever You Will Go." He also did an amusing yodeling performance. It was such a fun surprise to witness his talented and goofy side live, especially after clips of it went viral recently. Such a charming celeb!

"Because you are all smiling. It’s like the first time looking at the smiles and then I’m crying right now, I became very emotional. Thank you. Salamat po."

As he greeted the crowd for the first time, we already got a taste of what was to come–heart-fluttering interactions that he surely prepared for. "Kamusta ka? Ako ay si Kim Soo Hyun. Magandang gabi (How are you? I am Kim Soo-hyun. Good evening)," he said as he opened the show. Clearly, he had put in the effort to connect with his Filo fans, and that made the experience even more special.

In a touching moment, Soo Hyun couldn’t hold back his tears when the overwhelming success of Queen of Tears was mentioned. The drama has become a sensation, topping Netflix charts in the Philippines and earning a place in the hearts of many. When emcee Sam Oh asked him to thank his supporters, he became emotional and said it was because of the heartwarming smiles from the crowd. Awww!

"Omsim! Charot! Eme lang!"

The fan meet featured several engaging segments that allowed fans to interact with Kim Soo Hyun. In the "Yongduri Photo Studio," he talked about a photo he posted from Germany and imitated the pose where his shoulder was exposed. Naturally, this caused the audience to scream, and he had to gesture for all of us to calm down. (We did not. We COULD not!)

In a commentary segment, the actor shared behind-the-scenes stories and preparations for epic scenes in Queen of Tears. His heartfelt shout of "Hae In-ah!" when discussing a particular scene had everyone swooning. Then, in a "Surprise Quiz," lucky audience members who answered questions correctly won signed posters. The segment ended in a surprise event prepared by Soo Hyun. Taking from a page from the Baek Hyun Woo playbook, he surprised fans with "snow" falling inside the coliseum.

One of the most memorable segments, though, was when Soo Hyun learned Filipino slang. Hearing him say "omsim" (exactly) and "charot / eme lang" (just kidding) had everyone laughing hysterically. He even kept repeating the silly facial expressions and hand gestures throughout the night. TBH, it was giving Secretly, Greatly*! (*In this 2013 film, he played a North Korean spy posing as a village idiot. He "reprised" this role as a cameo in Crash Landing on You.)

"Actually when I was planning for this fan meeting, I wanted to give you guys a lot of laughs and enjoyment, but it seems I was the one who laughed more and enjoyed the show more."

The actor truly pulled out all the stops for his fans in the group game segment. Ten fans from all sections were chosen to join Soo Hyun on stage for games. Getting up close to the star (who was all smiles and snickers during the game) was already a huge prize. But, five of them got an even bigger one: The winning team received special necklaces designed by the actor himself. And since he was so generous, there were more fans that received the prize through a raffle draw. Omo! How lucky!

As the fan meeting drew to a close, Soo Hyun expressed his gratitude to his Filipino fans. Fans also expressed their love through a heartwarming video featuring special messages. He ended the night with a beautiful rendition of "Way Home," another OST from Queen of Tearsthat he recorded himself.

"This year, I think I will be coming back again to the Philippines."

In his final message, he revealed that he is working on his next project. However, he also teased about his return to the Philippines later this year! Fingers crossed, we have enough time to save money as we wait for his next visit.

Kim Soo Hyun’s "Eyes on You" fan meeting in Manila was a magical experience. More than the tears, there were laughter and unforgettable moments, especially when the star made genuine connections with his fans. Of course, his song renditions also made our hearts flutter a lot. Whether he comes back for another fan meeting, a concert, or even a filming stint, we will eagerly wait for Kim Soo Hyun and warmly welcome him again to the Philippines!
