BPI Prepaid Cards Will Be Deactivated by December

(SPOT.ph)Got a BPI prepaid card? Bad news: You’ve got until December 27, 2024 to use it before it’s deactivated for good. Let’s walk you through what you need to do next.

The following BPI prepaid card variants will be affected by the deactivation:

  • Amore Visa Paywave and Beep
  • BPI ePay Gift Card
  • BPI ePay Corporate Mastercard and Visa
  • BPI ePay Retail Mastercard and Visa (including the Virtual ePay Mastercard)

Don’t panic just yet—you can still use your prepaid card for purchases until the deadline.

However, you will no longer be able to load funds onto your prepaid card via the BPI mobile app, BPI Online, and Cash Accept Machines (CAMs) starting September 30, 2024. Do note that as early as now, BPI branches no longer accept reloads.

Any automatic or scheduled loading and payment transactions set up using your BPI prepaid card before August 28, 2024 will still be processed as planned. After that date, switching to BPI Debit Mastercard, BPI Credit Card, or VYBE wallet is necessary to maintain future payments.

How to check and transfer BPI prepaid card balance

You can view your funds at the Prepaid Card Balance Inquiry on BPI Online as well as any BPI ATM and Cash Accept Machines.

BPI offers several ways to transfer your remaining load balance. You can move your funds to other payment products like the BPI deposit account or the VYBE e-wallet by contacting BPI’s 24-hour hotline at 889-10000. The usual transfer fee of P50 is waived for this process.

Another option is to visit any BPI branch. Just make sure to bring your prepaid card and a valid ID for proof.

What happens to the balance if a prepaid card is deactivated

If you fail to transfer your remaining balance by December 27, BPI will automatically transfer our remaining prepaid card balance to your active BPI deposit account or VYBE wallet (with priority given to the deposit account if you have both).

For those who have neither, the balance will stay on your prepaid card but will incur applicable fees.

Ready to get rid of your prepaid card? Make sure to cut through these key parts to protect your information:

  • The EMV chip
  • The expiration date
  • The CVC/CVV (3-digit security code)
  • The magnetic stripe
