Cavitex Infrastructure Corp. (CIC), the concessionaire of the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), has tapped D.M. Consunji Inc. (DMCI) to construct a remaining segment of the C5 Link Expressway.

In a statement on Thursday, CIC said it signed a P3.3-billion construction deal with DMCI to build Segment 3B of the C5 Link Expressway.

Segment 3B is a six-lane two-kilometer toll road connecting CAVITEX at Parañaque in the west and C5 Road Taguig in the east.

Under the contract, DMCI will be responsible for the construction of roadworks, drainage, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, sanitary systems, and toll plazas for the two-kilometer, 3x3 lane Segment 3B, which spans from the Kaingin area to the RSG Subdivision.

The CIC said Segment 3B is targeted to commence construction by the second half of 2024 and is expected to be operational by 2025.

"This is a milestone for the CAVITEX C5 Link as this marks the construction of the last remaining segment. Soon, motorists will benefit from the entire 7.7-kilometer expressway stretching from CAVITEX R1 to C5 Road in Taguig," said Raul Ignacio, president and general manager of CIC.

Currently, operational segments of the CAVITEX C5 Link include Segment 3A-1 (C5 Link Flyover from C5 Road to Merville) and Segment 3A-2 (C5 Link Flyover Extension).

Segment 3B and Segment 2 (R1 Interchange) are underway, with Segment 2 set to open to motorists by next month.

CIC is a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., the toll road development arm of Pangilinan-led Metro Pacific Investments Corp.

MPTC oversees a portfolio toll roads, including CALAX, CAVITEX, North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), NLEX Connector Road, Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), and the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) in Cebu. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
