Russia and NATO heading for a showdown?
Russia's defence ministry warned Friday that the risk of a direct confrontation with NATO is increasing. The reason? The increasing number of flights by US spy drones over the Black Sea.
On the messaging service Telegram, the military department reports an intensification of US strategic drone flights over the Black Sea, "conducting reconnaissance and identifying targets for high-precision weapons supplied by Western states to Ukraine to attack targets in Russia".
According to the Russian ministry, this shows "the growing involvement of the United States and NATO countries in the conflict in Ukraine", clearly showing their support of the Kiev regime.
Moscow also sees the crisis in Ukraine as a "war by proxy" between itself and the Western alliance, stressing that the conflict would end immediately if Washington and its allies ended their military support to Kiev. The Russians also add that the war would never have happened if NATO had respected Russian security interests from the start. Clearly, the showdown between Russia and NATO continues.
