Democrat calls for Biden to sit out 2024 race after debate disaster
- Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas, called for Biden to drop out Tuesday
In a first, a sitting Democrat has called for President Joe Biden to get out of the presidential race.
Texas Democrat Rep. Lloyd Doggett called for President Joe Biden to withdraw from the presidential race Tuesday.
Doggett is the first sitting Democrat to demand Biden step aside.
'I represent the heart of a congressional district once represented by Lyndon Johnson,' the Texan said in a statement. 'Under very different circumstances, he made the painful decision to withdraw.'
'President Biden should do the same,' he continued.
