Faith Kipyegon has gotten her medal back after a successful appeal by Kenya.

Kipyegon had been stripped of the silver medal in the women's 5000m at the Paris Olympics after she was penalised for allegedly obstructing Ethiopia's Gudaf Tsegay.

Ethiopia filed an appeal after the race, and it sailed through, stripping Kipyegon of her silver medal. Athletics Kenya's appeal of the disqualification was successful, with Kipyegon getting reinstated to second place.

Faith Kipyegon reinstated

In a statement, Athletics Kenya disclosed that the appeal was led by Milka Chemos, Bernard Ouma and Team Manager Peter Angwenyi, who won the case to deliver Kenya's third medal of the games.

Beatrice Chebet had beaten Kipyegon in the last 100m to win gold, with Sifan Hassan finishing behind the two Kenyan women.

Chebet clocked 14:28.56 to win her first gold medal at a major championship after silver and bronze at past World Athletics Championships.

What next for Faith Kipyegon?

Kipyegon is set to compete in the 1500m heats on Tuesday morning as Chebet waits for the 10,000m final on Friday. Both Kenyans are world record holders in the respective events.

The former will be seeking to become the first person to win three consecutive 1500m Olympic titles after previous triumphs in Rio 2016 and three years ago in Tokyo.

Mary Moraa bags bronze medal

TUKO.co.ke earlier reported that Mary Moraa won a bronze medal in the women's 800m at the Paris Olympics.

Moraa was a major contender for the gold medal but faded in the final 100m as Great Britain's Keely Hodgkinson won the race. Ethiopia's Tsige Duguma won silver.

Hodgkinson finally laid her hands on a gold medal after finishing third or second in past major championships.
