NewsHow To Prevent Your Dog From Getting Heatstroke
The summer months can mean a lot of outdoor exercise for our dogs, but it's important to ensure they are safe and cool. Here are some steps you can take to prevent your canine companion from getting heatstroke. If your dog spends a lot of time outside, make sure they have plenty of water and shady areas to rest in. It is best to bring your dog for a walk either in the morning or in the evening to avoid peak temperature hours. One way to tell if the pavement you are walking on is too hot is to try the ‘seven-second test.’ If you can't hold your hand on the ground for more than seven seconds, then it is too hot for your dog's paws. Never leave your dog inside a parked car for any amount of time, even with the windows cracked. Watch out for common heat exhaustion symptoms, such as your dog's nose being hot and dry instead of wet and cool. Call a veterinarian if you think your dog may be suffering from heatstroke. They will be able to advise you about the next steps.
