NewsLocals rescue stray dog stranded on rapids in India
Firemen rescued a stray dog that was stranded on rocks surrounded by rapids when a river swelled in India. The hapless pooch was trembling looking around for help as the water rose around it following heavy rain in Kanniyakumari, Tamil Nadu, on June 28. Residents joined the emergency services as they waded through the torrents to drag the pooch to the safety of the banks of the Kotai River. Officials said the sudden rise in the water levels caught the dog by surprise while it was walking to the other side of the river. They said it was caused by the Pachiparai Dam being opened to ease flooding further upstream. It resulted in 3,000 cubic feet of water per second gushing into the river.
